KGLP's mandate is to provide for the otherwise unserved tastes and interests of the public in the Gallup area, and to present material that challenges the mind, provokes thought and discussion, broadens views, and educates the whole person in a formal and informal manner. KGLP strives to enhance intellectual development, expand knowledge, and deepen aesthetic enjoyment through a balanced presentation of alternative view points. KGLP attempts to help listeners become more responsive, informed human beings who exercise personal responsibility.

With experience at KGLP, an application to host a program has a better chance for success, beginning with an informal discussion with the Station Manager, other Staff, or perhaps a Board Member. Applicants would then submit a paragraph or two, in writing, either by email or in person, giving a succinct overview of what your program idea is, and what audience it will serve (Do commercial stations in the area air similar shows already? Live or Recorded?) The next step: Record three 30-60 minute shows, demonstrating what your show would sound like. The Staff and Board would then review the application and Demos. Feedback would follow, before a final decision is made on whether to proceed with your program, and what the next steps are. While not required, sustainability will count favorably, i.e., having more than one person working on the show would provide for better continuity and backup. Whether your show would be live or recorded, we would want at least 2 to 3 recorded shows, several weeks ahead, at any given time. Playlist entry would be required for any music programs.
